MARK CUNNINGHAM and DR TRUNA in sonic interaction with avant-garde abstract experimental short films from the 1920s. Their music mutates into a continuous pirouette of sounds, rhythms and dreamy melodies that dive into this abstract and experimental work by Walter Ruttman and his contemporaries.
Mark Cunningham (New Jersey, 1952) started his musical career in the 1970’s New York No Wave scene with one of its seminal groups, Mars, playing bass and guitar. In the ’80s he started working with trumpet and electronics in the NY improv and art club scenes and since 1991 has been based in Barcelona. Along the way he has participated in countless collaborations with fellow travellers such as Arto Lindsay, Christian Marclay, Rudolph Grey, Etant Donnes, Genesis P. Orridge, Pascal Comelade, Pierre Bastien and Lydia Lunch, as well as leading his own bands Don King, Raeo, Convolution, Bèstia Ferida, and Blood Quartet.
Dr.Truna (Valencia, 1965) is the pseudonym of Andrés Blasco Ramos, musician, composer and auto-luthier. In 1983 he began his activity in Valencia with the groups Carmina Burana (post-punk) and Fitzcarraldo (experimental rock). From 1995 to 1999, he lived in Liège (Belgium), from where he diligently developed his own sound and visual universe impregnated with pataphysics and Dada. In 2000, he returned to Valencia, focusing on his work as a one-man-orchestra, collaborating with dance, theatre and film-concerts. He is a founding member of Antorcha Amable, The Other Illustrious Official College of Pataphysics, JOP, 23 Sombras de Amnesia and Trío Truna (TX3). He currently collaborates with other sound artists such as Pierre Bastien with ELECTRICTOTEMS and WILDCAT QUARTET with Mike Cooper, Pierre Bastien and Mark Cunningham.
Walter Ruttmann (Frankfurt 1887 – Berlín 1941) was a German avant-garde film director. He is considered, along with Hans Richter, the main exponent of experimental abstract cinema.
This is the tenth edition of INFLUX festival [ video on stage ] that, once again, collaborates with Antic Teatre to promote artists who use video and digital media as an integral aspect of artistic expression in their stage proposals. The festival includes works by visual artists, musicians, poets, dancers, performers or theatrical creators who work in the in-between and hybrid spaces. INFLUX aims to provide visibility for local creators from Barcelona and Catalonia and wants to help display the diversity that exists in contemporary creation. The INFLUX festival is organized by HABITUAL VIDEO TEAM.
