Workshop – Encounter for movement and voice hosted by Cecilia Colacrai and Joâo Lima

20th April 2024 from 6pm to 8pm

Morder la Lengua / Cecilia Colacrai, João Lima y Anna Rubirola

Choreographers Cecilia Colacrai and João Lima will use this workshop to share some of the artistic tools and concerns from the creation processes of their pieces, the solos R.A.V.E. (Revolutionary Agglomeration for Voluntary Extermination) and Cavalo do Cão.

Cecilia and João have collaborated on a range of projects since 2008, both in performance creation and teaching. Their joint works have been presented at several venues in Spain, Argentina and Brazil. In recent years, they have each devised a solo where the other has been the outside eye.

Over the course of the years during which their paths have run alongside each other, in addition to the time spent together in the studio they have shared a viewpoint with a different slant to traditional European perspective. This could not be otherwise: they are both migrants, and come from different backgrounds. Their geographic connection also means they see performance in a similar way. To them, theatre is a place for experience, where bodies are put to the test, where they defy their physical limits as well as those of theatre itself. In their creations they connect to choreography as performer-composers. In this sense, their works feature physical action as the engine for dramaturgy. Both perceive the body as an expressive, pulsing and vibrant material.

The workshop aims to bring us closer to the worlds of both projects using body movement and voice.

This workshop is open to anyone interested in movement and voice work.

DAS Theatre (www.atd.ahk.nl)Feedback Method Workshop in collaboration with Antic Teatre

(From 24 to 26 November 2023)

Application of the method to 3 co-productions in progress:

Masha, by Cia Palimsesta (@palimsesta.cia) – circus

g0g0te0, by P0RN0T0PIAcollective (@por.notopiacollective) – new body languages

Cruuu, by Diana Gadish (@dianagadishbonas) – performance

The workshop will be led by Ainhoa Hernández Escudero (@noixih), creator, performance researcher and a graduate of DAS Theatre master’s programme.

For 20 years, Antic Teatre has been betting unconditionally on risk-taking, empowerment and commitment as drivers of contemporary artistic creation.

As a production and exhibition venue, Antic Teatre is constantly looking for ways to provide comprehensive support for the pieces it produces and exhibits.

And it’s in this area that we detect a lack of meaningful debates about art open to the general public. This critical function, traditionally carried out by academics, needs to be activated outside of academia, in places of exchange and generation of knowledge that are more elastic and permeable to change. To do this, we must debureaucratise knowledge and understand that there’s a strong and proportional relationship between education and culture.

It is for this reason that Antic Teatre, with its interest in live arts teaching programmes, is bringing to Barcelona a workshop on the Feedback Method of DAS Theatre, applying the method to three of its co-productions in progress: Masha, by Cia Palimsesta; g0g0te0, by P0RN0T0PIAcollective and Cruuu, by Diana Gadish. The sessions, open to a small number of participants, will take place on November 24, 25 and 26, and will be led by Ainhoa Hernández Escudero. Each day will begin with a theoretical introduction to the method, followed by a demonstration of the works in progress and a feedback session as the practical aspect.

Artist Verónica Navas (@dichodepaso) will be in charge of the written report, which will subsequently be available to the general public on the Antic website. The initiative is pioneering for a production and exhibition venue. With this first action, Antic Teatre aims to activate, in our context, a methodology for dialogue developed in academia, but useful and necessary outside of it. The workshop is based on the Feedback Method developed at DAS Arts – currently DAS Theatre – a master’s programme at the Amsterdam University of the Arts around research-based artistic and curatorial practices.

The Feedback method, conceived in 2010 at DAS Arts under the direction of Barbara Van Lindt in collaboration with Siegmar Zacharias, Karim Benammar, and the workers and participants of the master’s programme, is a way of encouraging dialogue on interdisciplinary artistic practices. Inspired by philosophical practices such as Socratic dialogue, this method seeks to empower creators during performance creation processes, providing tools and questions to continue developing their work.

The workshop is presented as an exercise in collective thought and reflection on specific performance pieces. Each participant in the workshop and practical sessions is invited to activate their knowledge and professional experience in a structured way. Throughout the workshop, the formats and steps of the method will be explored, followed by practical feedback sessions, each dedicated to an individual or collaborative artistic practice.

Ainhoa Hernández Escudero (Madrid, 1989) explores aesthetic categories linked to the strange and the monstrous through counterhegemonic practices located at the intersection of pop, post-internet aesthetics, technology and mainstream culture. Graduated from the DAS Theatre master’s program in 2022, she received the AFK 3 Package Deal Award 2022/2023 in the dance category. She has shared her stage works in contexts such as Frascati Amsterdam, Bâtard Festival Brussels, La Capella (ICK), MNCARS Madrid, Gessnerallee Zurich, Center for Performance Research (NY), Arqueologías del Futuro (ARG), Museo del Chopo (MEX), Antic Teatre (BCN), La Caldera (BCN), La Casa Encendida (MAD) and CA2M (MAD), among others.
