“To perceive in the darkness of the present the light that is trying to reach us yet cannot is to be contemporary. This is why contemporary people are strange. And this is why being contemporary is, above all, a matter of courage: because it means being capable not only of keeping one’s gaze focused on the darkness of the times, but also to perceive in the darkness a light that is moving away from us into infinity. In other words: being on time for an appointment which can only be missed.”

G. Agamben

I’m looking for the courage inherent in seeing and in doing, the strangeness and the determination due to the lack of a specific place. I like the uncertainty of not finding, but realising that the way lies in the search; of glimpsing a light that can only illuminate what is yet to come; of choosing the place that appears unreachable; of not being content just to suffer in darkness; all this interests me.
I firmly believe that circus can be found not only in the realms of leisure and entertainment, no doubt necessary (although imposed), but also emerging from the swamps of doubt and wallowing in the mud of a deep non-conformism; and that it tries to question itself through its own interpreters.

This project is a result of Antic Teatre(exhibition) approaching La Central del Circ (creation) with the aim of opening new channels between the various creation and exhibition venues in Barcelona. Six circus artists engaged in research projects for each of their various skills (contorsion, trapeze, corde lisse, Chinese pole) and one coordinator/director bring their work together over two weeks, and present the result of this brief encounter as a 60 minute performance piece.
The final stages of the work will take place at La Central de Circ and Antic Teatre, with public performances at the latter on the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th of June.
