14th ANTIC HORROR JURY PANEL:

IVAN VILLAMEL. Winner of the jury prize at last year’s 13th ANTIC HORROR with his latest short film, La Nueva (which was shortlisted more than 270 times and received more than 120 international awards), Villamel trained in direction, screenwriting and production at Barcelona’s Bande à Part School of Cinema and at CECC (Catalan Centre for Cinematographic Studies).

A short film maker with a stellar career in the genre (his previous short films, Refugio 115 and Mr. Dentonn, earned him over 750 shortlistings and around 200 international awards), he specialises in cinematographic analysis and has worked as programmer at various film festivals for almost a decade.

EDUARDO GIÓN. Film, theatre and documentary director. His documentaries and experimental works have been exhibited at festivals such as Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, New York’s West Side Film and Portland’s Underground Film Festival.

His latest film, Pujolar. Los muertos aún recuerdan su nombre, provides an insight into the artistic career of Albert Pujolar, draughtsman and regular cover illustrator for the ‘bolsilibros’ and pulp fiction novels published in the seventies by Bruguera, Bardon Art, Selecciones Ilustradas and even Warren itself, in the USA.

DANI ROTTENBRAIN. He has thirty years of gruelling work and counter-cultural militancy to his name. Angry artist, multi-undisciplined, hyper-vitaminised and super-mineralised, in addition to being the editor for AMAZING MONSTERS, a magazine specialising in horror and B-series films, he has been the guitarist and vocalist for MOTORZOMBIS for two decades, sharing the stage with bands such as THE MISFITS, THE DAMNED and THE METEORS.

His credits as a cinematographer include a good number of short films, now raised to cult status, such as El Ataque del Pene Mutante del Espacio, Amazing Mask and the award-winning Martians Go Home!, each of which clearly shows his love of the genre.

He has also directed hundreds of music videos for bands such as: DEF CON DOS, LOS TIKI PHANTOMS, DECIBELIOS and LOS MAMBO JAMBO.

  • OCURRIÓ CERCA DE TU CASA (IT HAPPENED NEAR YOUR HOUSE)”CYCLE OF HOME-GROWN HORROR FILMS AND CONVERSATIONS WITH THEIR MAKERS (2 sessions).

SESSION I (120′)

>>> Screening: Saturday November 2 at 6pm.

CHAPARRA ENTERTAINMENT: Spanish Monster Movies since 1997

Retrospective of Daniel Rottenbrain’s psychotronic production company: horror, sci-fi, wrestlers, gore, teenager horror Alaska, invaders, mutant penises, monsters, litres of green gunk, exploding brains, zombie vampires, astronauts, were-children, gamma rays… and all to the rhythm of Rock and Roll!

Showing the following short films:

MARTIANS GO HOME! . LA VENGANZA DE SARA CLOCKWORK (2006). Legend has it that acclaimed virtuoso thereminist Sara Clockwork disappeared in the middle of a performance at a large theatre in New York, in 1928. It is said she was “abducted by Martians”. In 1986, young Fran, employing his precocious scientific abilities, creates a Theremin. His aim is to use it to communicate with Sara Clockwork, his platonic love interest. What begins as a simple game ends up with a series of strange events that make Fran believe the Theremin really has the power to attract Martians to Earth and unleash a large-scale invasion.

EL ATAQUE DEL PENE MUTANTE (2009) Dr. Dickinson becomes a giant human penis after being exposed to Gamma rays while masturbating in the toilet of the spaceship he’s travelling in. Moved by a superhuman sexual urge he lands on Earth and gives free rein to his instincts.

AMAZING MASK VS. LA SOBRENATURAL MUJER VOODOO (2011). At a popular music hall run by the beautiful Sugar Brown, a horrific murder takes place. Investigating the murder of the bodyguard of Capital City’s mayor is Amazing. Everything points to dark doings behind which the dark rituals of Voodoo are hidden. African beauty Sugar Brown seduces our masked hero… Will Amazing be able to escape the terrible and sensual grip of this sorceress and avoid being turned into one of her Zombies?

After the screenings there will be a Q&A session with director Daniel Rottenbrain.

SESSION II (90′)

>>> Screening:Sunday November 3 at 4pm.

PUJOLAR. Los muertos aún recuerdan su nombre (2020). Mid-length documentary looking at the artistic career of Albert Pujolar, draughtsman and regular cover illustrator for the ‘bolsilibros’ and pulp fiction novels published in the seventies by publishers Bruguera, Bardon Art, Selecciones Ilustradas and even Warren itself, in the USA.
