El Arbol de Sangre dissolves and coagulates the artist’s experience of a series of hemodialysis sessions (a therapy for people suffering from renal insufficiency in the terminal stage) during which all the artist’s blood would be drained via a catheter inserted into his neck and jugular vein, inches from the heart, into a machine that would then cleanse it of toxins. The side effects resulting from this therapy are the patient’s physical and mental deterioration, in the artist’s case leading to physical and mental altered states.

Having undergone a transplant, the artist looks back on this episode of his life to substantiate the visions and sensations that he experienced during that time.
