No Magic
Shivers of astonishment in the brain and voluntary incomprehension are inevitable reactions to this performance which hides nothing, and which presents itself in such a parodic way that it becomes serious. Their stunts are designed to cause immediate confusion. The performers devote themselves to the live production of Duchampian sound and visual effects to accompany their bodily contortions while at the same time, unlikely though it seems, denying the very existence of Duchamp. TRE STORIE
(Premiere in Catalonia)
My!Laika likes to mix things up: its circus contains theatre, performance, music and anything else that could be an interesting way to transmit something to someone. Basically, experimentation with perfomance and visual languages is the company’s daily playground. Inspired by the most classical systems of puppet theatre from the 16th and 17th centuries, My!Laika Puppet Theatre is a container of contemporary stories that travels backwards through the history of this art, which when it first appeared was not in any way intended for children. The freedom of not having to respect the ancient traditions of the discipline allows them to tell contemporary stories in the slightly irreverent manner of alternative and independent circus. My!Laika is a circus company founded in 2009 to create pieces of movement, music and image. The shows are the result of long chains of distorted associations, which place the disciplines and artistic affections of the actors in a context of amoral theatre avoiding linear narrative and immediate understanding.
The ninth edition of KONVENT A L’ANTIC: a once-a-year chance to see, in Barcelona, the creations of resident artists at Konvent de Cal Rosal, a former convent of the late 19th century converted into a multidisciplinary and selfmanaged artistic centre.
Just like Antic Teatre, Konvent is a cultural agitator: a space for the arts and, at the same time, a way of practicing and understanding local culture. The continuous tracking and observation of the artistic environment, empowerment and providing visibility are some of the self-imposed duties of both establishments. The Antic Teatre-Konvent combo has produced many wide-ranging projects, such as Rebota rebota y en tu cara explota, by Agnés Mateus and Quim Tarrida, which won the Premio de la Crítica Nuevas Tendencias 2017, Premio FAD Sebastià Gasch Aplauso 2018 and Premio Butaca 2018 Nuevas Aportaciones Escénicas.
