Frau Diamanda: Lucha Subalterna en Drag is a retrospective look at 20 years of artistic production and militancy that travels from videoart to philosophical musing; from anecdotal accounts of Lima nightlife to the cultural historiography of Peru; from confession to simulacra; from dressing-up to live sound action; from egocentric delirium to community dialogue. It’s a journey that starts with a biographical account, peaks with the multimedia performance Narciso: Un Mito Urbano (reworked for the occasion), and closes with a conversation with the artist, laying all bare.
Frau Diamanda, socially committed transgender diva, has been Héctor Acuña’s artistic alter ego since 1999. Writer, translator, cross-dressing audiovisual artist, independent curator, cultural infector, DJ and occasional actress, she specialises in transgender art and multimedia performance. She studied for the Macba PEI FROM 2017-2018, receiving the grant for artistic trajectory. Originally from Peru, she has lived in Barcelona for the past three years and has taken her artistic projects to museums, galleries and cultural venues in Europe, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Bourges, Madrid, Seville and Valencia, as well as further afield to Buenos Aires in South America.
