In Brazilian Portuguese, cavalo do cão (“horse of the dog”) is an expression that refers to different things: an insect whose bite causes terrible pain, an indomitable person, or the horse that the devil rides. The term suggests a kind of animality in transformation. This performance has sprung from the conviction that the past, just like the future, is incomplete and under construction. Through different relationships between voice and movement, João Lima investigates the great historical milestone of modernity: colonialism and its repercussions today.
João Lima completed the Actor Training Course at the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation, the Choreographic Research and Creation Course at the Fórum Dança and the ESSAIS formative training at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine d’Angers. He holds a degree in philosophy from the University of Barcelona. As a performer he has collaborated with artists including Azkona & Toloza, Cecilia Colacrai, Marcela Levi and Vitor Roriz & Sofia Dias. His works have been presented in contexts such as the Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon), Festival 100 dessus-dessous (Paris), Teatro Sérgio Cardoso (Rio de Janeiro), Mostra Itaú Rumos Dança (São Paulo), Plataforma Lavardén (Rosario), Sala Hiroshima, La Caldera, Antic Teatre, Fundació Brossa, Dansa Metropolitana and Mercat de les Flors (Barcelona).
