“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword; for the mouth of the Jeshh has spoken” (Isaiah 1:19-20).
Lucía Flores Catalán (Puerto Lápice, 1992) is a creator, performer and social educator based in Barcelona. A graduate in Choreography and Performance from the Institut del Teatre, she develops a performance practice informed by contexts of precariousness, through which she approaches the body as a political and relational territory. She works with an interdisciplinary language that combines contemporary dance, physical theatre and clowning, exploring the tensions between identity, control and desire. Under the name cia. suPreema, which is not just a company name but an attitude, she stands firm against imposter syndrome with a nod to her ‘su prima’ (her cousin), the shameless alter ego who bursts in without permission. From there, her practice is built on the friction between dignity and sarcasm, between the normative and the marginal. She has developed projects in residence with the support of venues such as CCA El Corralito, CC Drassanes, CC Can Felipa, La Fornal and Ateneu La Bòbila. At the same time, she has worked as a performer in projects presented in various contexts in Barcelona, Madrid and Buenos Aires, such as the Mercat de les Flors, Sant Andreu Contemporani, the MACBA, La Caldera, the CC Eduardo Úrculo, Planta Inclán and Roseti, amongst others. She currently combines her creative work with mediation and educational projects, such as Carretera i Dansa by the APdC.
