Mis Alegrías is an exercise in centering, an attempt to be true to oneself, to speak from the playfulness of the inner child that accompanies us throughout life, to unmask the fears of failure that curtail authenticity.
Mis Alegrías is learning to pedal, because it’s something you never forget even if you never ride the bike again. Mis Alegrías is also a song of balance, a keening , a lament and a nod to the music of malagueñas and verdiales, where the winner is the last one to reach the finish line.
Mis Alegrías is a dance for joy because, above all, I am a dance.
Mis Alegrías – my joys – are not always joyful; they provide the chance for the discourse to go beyond the ordinary. In a world that is increasingly globalised, where the search takes place along the cliff edge of failure, perhaps the refuge we call home is found in holding on to our memories, our history, our folklore.
