SURPLUS perceives choreography as a technology for producing the present, and the body as the device that activates this.
Our practice takes the virtual (imagined/mental) and the real (material/body) and uses them in an attempt to manipulate perception, understood as something active and mobile. We work on body articulation, image, time and space with the aim of reconfiguring, re-contextualising and re-establishing connections; redirecting, re-presenting and re-investigating this perception from a wider angle.
Surplus aims to provide visibility for the articulation of body and thought, to provide transparency and facilitate multiple ways of seeing and thinking; of bodies and minds, both those that move and those that observe.
Marina Colomina has developed internationally acclaimed work as a choreographer and visual artist. She holds degrees is Fine Arts (Barcelona University 2007) and Dance ( School of New Dance Development, AHK, Amsterdam, 2013) and has worked for artists such as Deborah Hay, Ann Liv Young and Magdalena Ptasznic among others, as well as taking part in workshops and projects with La Ribot, Kristie Simson and Robert Stein among others. Her audio-visual and graphic work has been exhibited in Barcelona.
Magdalena Ptasznik composes representations through her work with choreography and dance. She holds a Sociology degree (Warsaw, 2005) and studied at AHK in Amsterdam with Deborah Hay, Ria HIgler, Meg Stuart and Robert Steijn, among others. She has been awarded the DanceWEB (Impulstanz) grant.
She is co-creator of the first centre of work on dance and choreography in Warsaw: Centrum w Ruchu.
