Apariciones Sonoras is a piece of research into the possible choreographic and visual dimensions of sound. The idea is to create an experience that can be likened to the synesthesia phenomenon, where sound acquires shape and plasticity, and the body and objects acquire sound. The visual potential of sound and synesthesia is constructed using body-object-sound elements in conjunction as they relate to and affect each other. Moving the concepts of sound, space, physicality and time from one element to another. The line of perception between what is generated and how it is produced are in constant drift and flux, leaving an open field of sensations that allows different associations and meanings to emerge.
Amaranta Velarde works in performance arts as a dancer and choreographer. She graduated from Codarts (Rotterdam Dance University) in 2004 and then worked intensively with choreographer Bruno Listopad, among others.
After working professionally in the Netherlands she moved to Barcelona in 2011, where she created her own choreographic work: Lo Natural, Hacia una estética de la buena voluntad and Mix-en-scene.
As well as creating her own projects she has worked with creators including Cris Blanco, el Conde de Torrefiel and Ola Maciejewska, and has been a member of the ARTAS collective of La Poderosa (2013-2016). She is currently working on Apariciones Sonoras in which she explores synesthesia and the visual and choreographic potential of sound.
