RAMON GUIMARAES

Ramon Guimaraes, Barcelona, 1968. Visual artist, performer and teacher who defines his oeuvre as a work in progress: a continuous space for creation, in which he expresses himself and manifests using body, voice and movement, where he stylises or exaggerates reality until what our heteronormative society keeps invisible is made visible and questioned. Feelings, emotions and personal experiences are the raw materials used for the physical, mental and emotional selfexploration he undergoes. Performance allows him to go beyond the personal and place himself squarely in the collective and universal in order to try and understand who we are.
Identity, gender questions, and physical and emotional interaction with the spectator have been integral parts of his work since he began his performance career in 1989. He has carried out more than one hundred unique performances and over eighty audiovisual works in various formats: interactive, multiscreen or single channel installations.
With a degree in Fine Arts and a Masters in Interactive Audiovisual Communications from Barcelona University, he has exhibited and performed at Matadero (Madrid), La Laboral (Gijón), and MACBA, the Joan Miró Foundation, Arts Santa Mònica, Espace Ample, Homesession, Mutuo and Haimney Gallery, among others, in Barcelona. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Vilà Casas Foundation, Franco de Toledo (Chile), Homesession, Esplugues de Llobregat Town Council, the Joan Brossa Foundation and MACBA, among others.

JULIÁN PEDRAZA
Bucamaranga, Colombia, 1982. Visual artist and videocreator who currently lives in Barcelona. After almost a decade dedicated to painting and performance events, he created a series of experimental videos that have been included in several international festivals. His short film No nací en el cuerpo equivocado, tenía una idea equivocada de mi cuerpo was shown at the Rotterdam International Film Festival’s 2020 edition. Pedraza’s work draws its inspiration from current social and political events, the artistic potential of cultural expressions related to underdevelopment and their intrinsic aesthetic value, using irony in the retrieval of the visual and conceptual canons that define such subjects.
ANANKÉ PEREIRA
Santiago de Chile, 1990. Filmmaker at the University of Chile. Took part in the Talent Campus Buenos Aires, Bafici 2017. In 2020 completed a Masters in Editing at ESCAC. Worked as an editor for Exploit Lab. Directed short films Escaip (2012) and Snap (2017). Currently finishing work on his third documentary short film, Vertical (2021), and studying for a Masters in Documentaries at ESCAC.
FELIPE ELGUETA
Santiago de Chile, 1990. Filmmaker at the University of Chile. Took part in the Talent Campus Buenos Aires, Bafici 2015. Founder of Exploit Lab, a collective that develops work on the Internet and non-fiction. His three short films, Escaip (2012), .gif (2016) and Snap (2017), explore the link between internet and film. In 2020 he completed a Masters in Creation and Experimentation at MasterLav, Madrid. Currently working on his first celluloid project for filming in Barcelona in 2021.

A combination of chance circumstances (plus a certain amount of initiative) have led to the 8th of March, International Women’s Day, featuring a programme consisting of four men whose work focuses on identity, the body, women, the LGTBI+ community, collective memories and the role played by the media and social networks.
We present You Too, a performance ritual by Ramon Guimaraes to remind us of the mistreatment suffered by women, followed by the screening of a collection of Julián Pedraza’s videographic works under the title Solo creo en el azar, and the much-awarded short film Snap by Chilean directors Ananké Pereira & Felipe Elgueta.

You Too

You too can be understood within the framework of a personal transformation towards a new masculinity, focusing on the construction of a collective memory that, in a ceremonial and symbolic manner, reminds us of all the abuse, mistreatment and inequalities that more than half of the beings on this planet have suffered and continue to suffer for being born women, for being aware of it, or simply for manifesting and expressing their gender. The artist’s body is the canvas for the pain of all the mistreated women in history, and his head is a shared space for creation and the metaphor of a collective memory constructed by means of symbolic gestures made by the attendees, all with the aim of contributing to a change in our society, which continues to mistreat women.

Solo creo en el azar:
VHS tapes, pirated films, digital downloads, soaps, videoclips, adverts… and Julián Pedraza’s scissors. The narrative connections that emerge in these pieces are the result of a deliberate selection of archive material, but at the same time stem from an involuntary progression in which chance creates unsuspected meanings. Tragedy, comedy and eroticism, mixed into an underdeveloped cocktail.

“Regina 11″ is the pseudonym of Regina Betancourt de Liska, an unusual and multifaceted character from Colombian popular culture. Although her name is almost always connected to witchcraft and superstition, through her iconography and performances she created her own world, full of references that are as unheard of as they are diverse. Her ideological power and her peculiar charisma led her to establish, towards the end of the 70s, the Movimiento Unitario Metapolítico (Unitarian Metapolitical Movement), becoming a world pioneer in the political representation of women. Her television appearances and public acts are still remembered today as proof of the surreal development of the tropics, where the avant garde coexists with tragedy.

We’ve learned to communicate in fifteen seconds. Private lives are publically exposed under the assumption that 24 hours later they’ll have vanished, but this short film creates an area of restistance and existence. Snap recovers ephemeral moments from the social network for the lives of Alfonso, Anna Balmánica and Alexa, personalities from the LGTBI+ community going through personal and social conflict, in order to accompany them in their private moments and celebrate their differences.
FLUX CLUB celebrates its 12th season at the Antic Teatre and the 21st anniversary of its creation in 2000.
This is a fortnightly video programme that reflects the vitality of video creation in Barcelona. It hosts all kinds of sessions with screenings, video performances, and debates offering direct contact between audiences and video creators. The sessions focus on a range of subjects, from monographics of well-known directors to specific themes such as video dance and video poetry, or collective sessions dedicated to emerging authors.
The programme is open to everything currently going on in the field of video in Barcelona, complementing the FLUX Video Auteur Festival with its content and extending its sphere of influence beyond the dates of the festival, which takes place in December.
HABITUAL VIDEO TEAM is a non-profit association that has as its main objective the promotion of activities related to the visual arts, specifically, video art: www.habitualvideoteam.org.
A fundamental area of their work is the organisation of festivals, cycles and video shows, such as the FLUX Video Auteur Festival: www.fluxfestival.org, and the INFLUX Audiovisual Performing Arts Festival: www.influxfestival.org.
Another area of Habitual Video Team’s activity is video documentation of cultural events mainly related to experimental music and poetry performances. In 2012 they launched the SUMMA project in order to convert this audiovisual heritage (more than 1000 recordings) into a non-profit online video archive: www.summa-hvt.org.
