When large groups of people get together to do something, it is usually fun. And feeling pleasure is fun and exerting power is fun and excluding others is also fun. So there is a lot of joy in all of this. A NATION IS BORN IN ME is an exploration of how these elements work together to strengthen each other. But this piece is also the product of a personal obsession with creating a work that would perfectly fit the encounter between the performer and the audience. Something irreplaceable. Something slippery to the gaze and confusing to the mind. Something that would defuse all resistance. Something impossible to fight against. Something worth surrendering to. When I began to mix all of this up with my taste for theatre, I was relieved to see that I was on the right track.

In the light of a resurfacing and progressive strengthening of Nationalist and Identitarian movements throughout Europe in the 21st Century, A Nation Is Born In Me extracts dynamics that operate in such movements and blends them together with identity politics, media culture and sport culture, provoking an uncanny closeness between these apparently contrary aesthetics. Through the different presentations of the body that are produced in these encounters, A Nation Is Born In Me works as a formal investigation of these apparently disconnected mass culture dynamics.

Soren Evinson studies at Institut del Teatre of Barcelona and completes his MA studies in performance at Central School of Speech and Drama (University of London). He lives in London 6 years where he develops his practice collaborating with many artists and showing in various conventional and non conventional spaces. This is his first solo show and the beginning of a new stage in his practice.

Through body, text, and space Soren Evinson generates situations that speculate on different power structures with an aesthetic interest in making any possible discourse untrackable. His work blends choreographic materials with spoken and sung vocals to create direct and delusional performances with a provocative relation to the audience. He conjugates sound, text, movement and space so they interact forming live organisms. His work has been presented internationally in dance, performance and theatre festivals, art galleries, abandoned buildings and public squares.
