Gentry, la ciudad en venta is a documentary theatre show about the phenomenon of gentrification (a neologism from the English describing the process whereby the original population of a usually central and popular neighbourhood becomes slowly but surely replaced by another with increased buying power or by a more lucrative commercial activity). The Mos Maiorum collective use their own language: sociological research, verbatim, audiovisuals and new dramaturgies. For this second show, the performers also listen live to real people’s statements and reproduce them and, by providing sound and corporal presence, becoming the mediums transmitting first person voices in the most faithful way possible: with no addtions, no artifice.
Mos Maiorum are a theatre collective from Barcelona established in 2015. They specialise in documentatry and political theatre that places the spectator in the middle of the performance itself by means of immersive techniques. The stage then becomes a public agora from which to reflect, collectively, on themes that generate social conflict. They use the stage to bring about a collective and transformative catharsis.
