In the sequence of the measures approved by the Generalitat de Catalunya derived from the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, Antic Teatre – Espai de Creació postpone Vida, muerte y resurrección.
Vida, muerte y resurrección (Life, death and resurrection) aims to reposition Britney Spears, indisputable icon of pop culture, as a representative of general contemporary culture that can inspire thoughts about the ways we behave, relate to each other, and co-exist. It’s also motivated by the desire to construct something personal, something that by referencing my own life can be recognised and resound with/in others.
This is a narcissist experience: an exercise in uncovering the unique character of everything one is, continuing to search for a way to reorganise and revisualise the world based on an I that can formulate itself directly, and that can construct narratives based on its own individuality.
Elias Miguez holds a degree in Choreographic Composition from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (Argentina). He has been directing his own shows, all premiered in Buenos Aires, since 2014: Sexo De-vil, Abortar la Danza and El verano. In 2017, he directed a creation residency in Montevideo, Uruguay, for No hay que dure cien años ni cuerpo que lo aguante.
Since mid-2017 he has been living in Madrid, where he has worked as a performer on projects by Rui Horta and André Uerba (Naves Matadero), Monica Runde (Sala Cuarta Pared and FITTCAT), and Sergio Martínez Vila and the Performing Gender platform (Conde Duque).
In 2020 he created Vida, muerte y resurrección (Konvent), after which he was invited to take part in the 5th edition of Konvent at Antic.
Fifth edition of KONVENT A L’ANTIC: the once-yearly chance to see, in Barcelona, work by artists living at Konvent de Cal Rosal, a former, late 19th century convent that has become a multidisciplinary and self-managed arts centre.
Just like Antic Teatre itself, Konvent is a cultural disrupter: a space for art, but at the same time a way of creating and understanding culture within a geographical context. Both spaces are dedicated to the constant tracking and observation of the arts scene, as well as fostering and promoting new work. The Antic Teatre/Konvent combo has been the instigator of many well-travelled shows such as Rebota rebota y en tu cara explota, by Agnés Mateus and Quim Tarrida, winner of the Crítica Noves Tendències 2017, FAD Sebastià Gasch Aplaudiment 2018, and Butaca 2018 Noves Aportacions Escèniques awards.
This 5th edition will showcase projects selected from among this year’s residencies that prioritise working method over end results, and openly reveal the creation processes that have gone into the devising of each particular piece of work.
