presentation

The videos you’re about to see are audiovisual poetic lozenges: short pieces of videopoetry inspired by internet videos known as ASMR*. The videopoems are individual, contemplative pieces that provide the viewer with cognitive, musical and sensorial stimuli with the aim of affecting their physical, emotional and rational state.

The presented videopoems come in two categories: with and without text.

*ASMR (Autonomous sensory meridian response) is a neologism for a biological phenomenon characterised by a tingling sensation usually felt on the head, scalp and peripheral regions of the body in response to diverse visual, aural and sensorial stimuli.

PIRÒMANA D’ARGOS

PIRÒMANA D’ARGOS

Piròmana d’Argos (Núria Iglesias Rodríguez), Susqueda (Girona), 1986.

A transdisciplinary artist, she approaches her work as a “speleologist of subcutaneous caverns and poet of muscular tissue”; the body and its rhythmic emanations are the supporting axes for her creative processes. She pursues the idea of the body as a channel and uses this to highlight the adaptability of transversal poesy; any process that takes place before this is based on an internal exploration of a symbolic universe developing as a reflection of the external world.

Her research centres on the plasticity of memory, imagination and the temporal quality of different states of consciousness. She explores and summarises these fields of interest by means of poetic essays, performances, audiovisuals, visual arts, sound art, collage and animation, all from a place where the lines separating these disciplines have become blurred. Her practice is linked to the medium in which it is practiced and to the beings that inhabit it or move through it. She has travelled to New York, Singapore, Italy and Greece and continues to develop other projects in Susqueda – land of her birth – and Cap de Creus.

presentation

This compilation of pieces is an attempt to show a range of approaches to audiovisual language contained in the artistic research and practice of Piròmana d’Argos, whose work is transdisciplinary and self taught using basic tools and a muscular and experiental poetry. We will share the moment of first contact, follow its evolution and end with one of her most recent manifestations.

Pràctica de recerca a Susqueda I

Projecte d’investigació artística “Cor / Fase 2.3”
01/11/2017_2:02 min

This piece is powered by an original impulse from where there is a bifurcation and rejoining of two ways in the linking of body and audiovisual medium, stemming from the study of the word ‘register’. On the one hand, it’s an exploration of videographic language from a place where there has been an attempt to capture the inner state during editing, as regards the tools used, while observing and remembering the perceptions registered by the body. On the other, it’s a research exercise where fixed shots are maintained while amplifying certain synchronicities carried by the elements registered during action. Basically, the trend and degree of intensity leans towards one or the other of the ways. In this case, a physical practice is developed within the natural environment of Susqueda – the homeland. It’s an exercise in atmospheric listening. The work provides the source for other artistic transferences (writing). It’s a return to the wellspring and a game with a heartbeat.

Mar d’herba

Projecte d’investigació artística “El coratge de les creus”
01/09/2016_2:54 min

This piece explores how to generate a poetic image using a moving body and a recently ploughed field registered in fixed shot, with the distorsions shown during the audiovisual editing. Part of the “El coratge de les creus” research project begun in 2015.

Cinediari

Projecte d’investigació artística “Gest Innat”
14/10/2016_2:52 min

Inspired by the film works of Jonas Mekas, this piece explores the worlds that unfold when physical sentation becomes a symbol through the oral memory of people narrating their experiences during WWII. The work is based on found images, an interview and the register of physical gestures. The piece is made with particular attention to the editing and visual textures. Research work carried out for the “Gest Innat: síntesis de una investigación sísmica” project, provided with grant funding by Bòlit-Centre d’Art Contemporani, Girona and Rad’Art (San Romano, Emilia-Romagna, Italy).

Trifàsic. Experiment oníric 3/3
01/03/2017_2:52 min

Trilogy of videopoems created from dreamstate registers that include found footage and in which the visual vocabulary is explored by transferring instantaneous physical composition strategies to the audiovisual medium with the aim of transmitting sensations.

[Biochemical Phenomen] – Experimental Short Pieces (2)
01/03/2018_00:36 min

Short piece of sensory experimentation in which transition, visual composition and facial expression are explored.

[Poppies and Engines in the Meadow (When Suzanne Ciani sounds, I rewind and I make a video)] Experimental Short Pieces (6)
01/12/2019_1 min

In this piece the relation between physical movement, audiovisual editing and atmospheric creation are explored through sound. A fixed shot register of a physical improvisation in a natural environment that deliberatelly includes the audiovisual editing tool in order to transmit other registers captured by the body in movement during the exercise, whether through the editing or the composition using the amplification of a detail within the fixed shot.

Andare in brodo di giuggiole

Projecte d’investigació artística “Gest Innat”
01/10/2017_3:28 min

This piece explores the worlds that unfold when physical sensations become a symbol through the oral memory of people narrating their experiences in the fields. The work is based on a recording made on an October afternoon in 2016 in Adriana’s vegetable garden, who can be seen accompanied by her daughter Verdiana. The piece pays particular attention to the relation between moving image, sound and abstraction. A research work for the “Gest Innat: síntesis de una investigación sísmica” project provided with grant funding by Bòlit-Centre d’Art Contemporani, Girona and Rad’Art (San Romano, Emilia-Romagna, Italy).

The Virgin of Big Data
01/12/2019_00:55 minç
Sound animation edited with approximately one hundred images. Part of the expanded writing project “Llums Geològiques”. It explores telluric power in relation to new technological media.

Destra – Ala 2/2 (Acció per a càmera)
01/11/2021_2:04 min
Performative action for camera developed in two parts at different times. A look at stereotypes and the resistance of women, with nods to the archetype of telluric goddess associated with the double axe or butterfly. The second part includes the poem “Wendy” by Martha Asunción Alonso.

FLUX CLUB celebrates its 13th season at the Antic Teatre and the 22nd anniversary of its creation in 2000.

This is a fortnightly video programme that reflects the vitality of video creation in Barcelona. It hosts all kinds of sessions with screenings, video performances, and debates offering direct contact between audiences and video creators. The sessions focus on a range of subjects, from monographics of well-known directors to specific themes such as video dance and video poetry, or collective sessions dedicated to emerging authors.

The programme is open to everything currently going on in the field of video in Barcelona, complementing the FLUX Video Auteur Festival with its content and extending its sphere of influence beyond the dates of the festival, which takes place in December.

HABITUAL VIDEO TEAM is a non-profit association that has as its main objective the promotion of activities related to the visual arts, specifically, video art: www.habitualvideoteam.org.

A fundamental area of their work is the organisation of festivals, cycles and video shows, such as the FLUX Video Auteur Festival: www.fluxfestival.org, and the INFLUX Audiovisual Performing Arts Festival: www.influxfestival.org.

Another area of Habitual Video Team’s activity is video documentation of cultural events mainly related to experimental music and poetry performances. In 2012 they launched the SUMMA project in order to convert this audiovisual heritage (more than 1000 recordings) into a non-profit online video archive: www.summa-hvt.org.
