Residencies

Antic Teatre champions research-based, multidisciplinary, contemporary art, not only in the shows and events it programmes, but in its support to creation by means of the two types of residency offered to artists:
- Research and creation residencies for local, national or international artists living in Barcelona (one or two projects per year during August). They can be held at Antic Teatre itself or in collaborating venues.
- Artistic and technical residencies for local, national, or international artists living in Barcelona (around 20 projects over the course of the year), which generally take place in the auditorium and run for three or four days.
From Adriantic to the present
To this end, Antic Teatre used to rely on Adriantic, a rented warehouse where artistic residencies took place until 2015. Each year somewhere between 20 and 25 artists or companies were able to take advantage of this, and, although the venue has gone, we haven’t set this aspect of our work aside.
The first grant for a three-year contract given by ICEC (Catalan Institute for Cultural Industries) during the 2014-2015 term coincided with the loss of Adriantic, which in turn led to an increase in collaborations with other venues in the city (both public and private) in order to continue offering residencies to the creators in Antic Teatre’s artistic community.
At the same time, Antic Teatre’s theatre has always been used for technical residencies for all the companies with whom we have production and/or co-production agreements. Most of these companies and artists have done prior work at other locales in the city with which Antic has collaboration agreements.
Under these terms, in 2019, 20 technical residencies were made available. This year, research and creation residencies have been offered to three companies over July and August.
All these companies receive financial and infrastructural support (help with communications, a video of the show that is then promoted and disseminated, etc.) in addition to support for the show’s initial and subsequent presentations.

SEXANGEL
(performance)
With SEXANGEL, I continue to investigate the body as spectacle. In this case, I am interested in developing studio material for a solo that responds through the body, the voice and the text, to how sex is related – or not – to my aesthetic fantasy of the contemporary figure. [+ info]

La Ciudad
(New drama)
La Ciudad provides an intimate environment from which to converse with the city outside, whether real or invented (it makes no difference). Entirely subjectively and with no attempt to generalise, we observe all the things the narrator and performer finds of interest: traces, details, prints…[+ info]
